Special Sail Day Sunday 5th October





The next full day sailing and island adventure departs Cairns Marlin Marina at 8.30am. Fitzroy Island with its fabulous walking tracks and famous Nudey beach is only 45 minutes away by ferry. Visitors will have until 1.00pm to explore the rainforest clad island or go snorkelling viewing the exotic fish and coral gardens. Bring your own snorkel gear or available for hire on the island. Lunch and afternoon tea is provided aboard Duyfken.

Duyfken will depart Fitzroy Island at 1.30pm for a fabulous afternoon sail back to Cairns arriving back in Trinity Inlet at sunset. Hoist the sails or relax and experience how seafarers sailed the seas 400 years ago. The maximum number of passengers is restricted to 12 persons only. The fare is $150 per person including port fees and ferry transfer one way to Fitzroy Island.

Australia’s maritime history began in1606, when the Dutch ship Duyfken landed on the shores of Cape York Peninsula and charted 600 miles of Queensland’s coastline.
Step aboard and live the history as a museum or come sailing on Cairns waterways and see how these ships were sailed 400 years ago. Hailed by Dutch Historians as the most exacting “Age of Discovery Replica“ in the world to sail.

Come aboard the Duyfken and discover how the ship was built, how the crew lived aboard with few facilities (and certainly no luxuries) and learn about it’s unique place in Australia’s History mapping the Cape York Coastline in 1606.

Come sailing aboard the Duyfken on the picturesque Trinity Inlet and watch the crew set sail. Take a guided tour of the ship and experience sailing as it was 400 years ago. See Cairns waterways mangrove shoreline and the mountains in the background. Enjoy afternoon tea, fresh cakes and tropical fruits served onboard. Lots of photo opportunities as the ship berths with a tropical sunset.
